DC Comics announced nearly a year ago that they would be creating a series of stand alone graphic novels about the major heroes in the DCU, and appropriately enough they started it off with Superman Earth One.

Written by J. Michael Straczynski and illustrated by Shane Davis with colours by Sandra Hope, Superman Earth One is a modern retelling of the Superman Mythos.

Joe Hill has given me hope. It’s been years since I’ve actually finished a fiction book.  I read quite a bit, but most of it is non-fiction, gripping things like Re-Work, Rocket Surgery Made Easy, Web Analytics; An Hour A Day, and the absolutely spellbinding Sharepoint Server 2007 Best Practices!

Horns is the best book I’ve read in a long time. I honestly can’t remember the last book I enjoyed as much as this one. Continue Reading

Book Review: Double or Nothing

Double or Nothing book coverDouble or Nothing is the story of how two friends hit it big in the dot com era, and then went on to purchase the legendary Golden Nugget Casino. Written by Tom Breitling in a casual, informal style, their story deals with the ups and downs of a fourteen year period that in some ways mirror my own experiences over the last 15 years (although in my case without the vast riches that went along with the story).
