TSN.ca/Wrestling announces changes

I guess I should address this since a few people have e-mailed me privately asking what’s going on. Late last week, after a lot of debate, the guys on the row and I decided that it was time for me to stop writing for TSN.ca/wrestling. There wasn’t any “hidden agenda” or anything like that. I just grew bored with wrestling, I needed a break, and I don’t know right now if I’ll be interested in writing for the site again.

Watching wrestling was 6 hours of my week. Writing about it was another 2. Giving that habit up, means that I get 8 hours of my week back, or a full work day. That’s enough to get a ton of stuff related to the class I’m teaching, or the business I’m running done.

Maybe in the future I’ll come back, but for now I’m happy to sit at home on a Saturday morning doing non-wrestling related work.

PSX

Now this is cool!

A whole new version of the Playstation is coming out later this year, and it’s going to be the first steps in Sony’s attempt to gain control of your entire living room. It will have a 120GB hard drive, built in modem, ethernet, and DVD Recorder, and will have a built in satelite/cable tuner for recording programs to the hard drive ala a TiVo.

This is a terrific idea, and if Sony were to offer a $10.00/month subscription package to an online games forum, and tv guide listings, I’d be on that bandwagon faster than you could watch me jump.

Yo TiVo…you better watch your backs, Sony’s sneakin’ up behind you, and Microsoft won’t be too far behind with the X-Box if they’re smart (imagine the same scenario for the X-Box, only using Windows Media Encoder to record the shows rather than an MPEG encoder).

The big difference for Sony and X-Box is that the console’s are loss leaders so they can make more cash from the licensing of games. TiVo needs to make a profit on the systems.

Looooong weekend

Wow, what a difference a little R&R makes. As I write this it’s Victoria Day Monday…and I’ve just had a great, relaxing weekend, which I really needed because I was about to snap after last week’s “Week of Monday’s”. It was just such a crappy, rainy, long week last week where everything seemed to go wrong at every turn.

Everything turned around on Friday though, I managed to get everything that I was working on done by about 2:00 in the afternoon, and then I started on a couple of things to get me ready for this week…what a concept, being prepared for the next week. All of that, and I managed to leave by 5:00!

Friday night we went and saw The Matrix. It was about what I was expecting, the middle movie of a trilogy. No beginning, no end…just the middle (the end of it felt exactly like the end of The Fellowship of the Ring, or more appropriately the Empire Strikes Back, where you know that Han is in sheep dip, and Luke Skywalker is waking up on the bed of the hospital ship, checking out his new hand, but nothing’s resolved). Thank god that the end is only 6 months away. Actually, this is going to be a great holiday movie season with both The Matrix Revolutions and Lord of the Rings; The Fellowship of the King coming out before Christmas!

Saturday morning I went for a nice bike ride, it was still pretty cool, but the weather was looking up. When I got back, Char and I had some breakfast and headed out to Ajax to check out our field. We went to Lakeside and took some pictures of the model homes there (so that we could get some ideas for our upgrades for when we have to do that stuff later this year), and then we drove out to Brooklyn to take pictures of the models there. There was one place there that had a “Media Loft”, which was this amazing projection screen on the third floor. It was a really cool place with a little bathroom, a fridge and sink, and a little area for a foozball table (although I’d have a stand-up arcade machine with a MAME emulator there instead). From there we came back to Toronto, bought some groceries, and had a great dinner of grilled portabello mushrooms from my new grilling book that I bought.

Sunday morning Jeff, Larry, Dennis and I met at 10:00 for some roller hockey, where we ran into some other guys who were playing. We played a little 3-on-2 for a while, and then the other guys left. We stuck around until almost 1:00. After that, I came home, had lunch, and went for a walk in the Beach with Char. I read my book “Comic Wars”, which is about the battle for Marvel Comics after they filed for Bankrupcy protection, and then I went out and rented a couple of movies (I Spy, the second 24 disc, and “The Emperor’s Club”). That night we had some awesome brined chicken for dinner, along with Sweet Potatoes with maple cinnamon butter (you just add a tsp of maple syrup and some cinnamon to a little bit of butter), and a salad. We’re eating so many vegetables on this diet I tells ya. We went for a quick walk down to the boardwalk to check out the midway that’s set up there. When we got back, I watched I Spy while Char watched the finale of The Bachelor, and then we were too exhausted to watch our other movie.

This morning we went to The Tulip for breakfast, and then came home where I’ve been sitting on the deck with my laptop and wireless connection, doing some work for HeadsDown. Tonight we’re going to watch our movie, and then go down to the boardwalk to watch the fireworks (with some home-made chocolate chai tea which we bought today).

Now that’s what I call a great, relaxing weekend.

Ordering from Amazon.ca

On Monday I ordered a couple of CD’s and a book from Amazon.ca. Wednesday evening I finally got confirmation that the order was being shipped…now today I track it, and it has apparently arrived in Mississauga last night at 7:48pm. Since Mississauga is only an hour away from Toronto, it will probably make it to my house within the week!

Seriously though, I don’t think I’ll ever order from them again. I originally did because I had a $5.00 coupon, and Chapters.ca doesn’t carry CD’s. Having gone through the experience once with both companies, I have to say that Chapters is amazing compared to Amazon’s adequete service. When I ordered from Chapters.ca, within an hour the package was processed, and sent to UPS. I had my book within a day of ordering it, which was pretty amazing, and gave me “warm fuzzies” for Chapters. I’ll get my CD’s in stores from now on, and continue to order books online (it’s quite a bit cheaper).

What an idiot

What an idiot

I forgot to change my settings back to the old server, which meant that my blog wasn’t working properly. Oops. Sorry about that folks. I’ve fixed it now, and the blog should be updated fairly regularly.

What a weekend

On Friday Night we went to see X2: X-Men United with Nikki, Tim, Tiffany and Jeff, and it was amazing. I think it may be my new favourite comic movie of all time, pushing The Matrix to number 2, Spidey down to number 3, and Superman down to number 4!

Nightcrawler was just perfect, and the little cameos by dudes like Colossus, Kitty Pryde, and Jubilee were really cool.

Top ten favourite comic book related movies (subject to change when the rest of the summer unfolds):

1: X2: X-Men United

2: The Matrix

3: Spider-Man

4: Superman

5: The Crow

6: X-Men

7: Batman

8: The Mask

9: The Rocketeer

10: Superman 2

This could be the best summer for movies in a long time. Just checking out the Apple.com website there’s a ton of great stuff, including: Underworld (Vampires vs Werewolves, very cool concept), The Hulk, Bad Boys 2, Finding Nemo, Pirates of the Carribean, S.W.A.T., 28 Days Later, Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle, Terminator 3, Kill Bill, and of course The Matrix Reloaded.

On Saturday I went and played some roller hockey with Jeff, and I’m still paying for it today…ouch. Char and I went out to Fairview mall in the afternoon, and then rented out Femme Fatale…which wasn’t so good. That’s something like four movies in a row we’ve rented and not really liked.

On Sunday I got my bike out, cleaned it up, and took it for a ride. Which is probably another reason I’m in pain today.

On my way home, I picked up the first 24 disc, and we watched the first episode last night. Okay, now I see what all the hype’s about. The cinematography is amazing. It’s a great looking show, and it must be expensive as all get out to produce. I’m really looking forward to another episode tonight.

I also bought this really cool book on grilling this weekend, and I made an amazing barbeque sauce and barbeque rub last night. Damn, I forgot to put the cover on the barbeque, and it’s raining today…blah!

Today I went to Centennial for my orientation class. The course is going to be amazing, and I start this Friday. There’s a lot to be done before then though.

We moved servers again

We moved servers again

Due to some serious problems with our previous host, we had to move to another one. What does this mean for you, the user? Probably nothing. For us it means we’ll actually get e-mails from folks, and that’s a good thing.
