Before I start into 2004 whole hog, I thought I’d take a look back at the “best of” 2003.Best book 2003: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
The fifth in the series, and it’s the darkest by far. A great, light read that makes me excited about the next installment.
Best comic series 2003: Supreme Power
Marvel’s re-imagining of Squadron Supreme is fascinating, and a perfect example of decompressed storytelling.
Best packaged hardcover 2003: Batman: Hush
6 issues for $30.00 is a little hard to swallow, but the packaging made up for it. Spot varnished cover, gorgeous hardcover presentation, and awesome dust jacket made it well worth the money.
Coolest toy 2003: Ultimate Iron Man (Marvel Select)
The coolest comic of 2002 is now the coolest toy line, from The Ultimates Marvel released Iron Man, Captain America, and The Hulk, of the three, Iron Man is the coolest with his manga influenced stylings, and incredible packaging.
Best DVD 2003: Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
Wow. The movie’s 43 minutes longer, and there are over 8 hours of extras (plus three commentary tracks), add in the coolest easter egg of all (Gollum’s MTV Movie Awards speech), and that’s an amazing package.
Best comic book movie 2003: X2: X-Men United
In a year that saw Daredevil, Hulk, and X-Men 2 all make it to the big screen, it was X-Men that didn’t dissapoint. Why was it so amazing? One word; Nightcrawler.
Best Movie 2003: Kill Bill Volume 1
Wow, how I loved this movie. It was uuber violent, yet almost poetic in it’s flow. Obviously a love letter from a film geek to film geeks.
Biggest Dissapointment 2003: The Matrix Revolutions
Oh how it sucked. They should have called it “Zion”, not The Matrix. Suck, suck, SUCK!
Best new toy purchased 2003: X-Box
I sold my PS2 at the end of the year and bought an X-Box. So far I love it. Mechassault and Knights of the Old Republic are my favourite games on this or any system.
Best overall purchase 2003: Our House
Char and I bought a house in early 2003, and we have 10 months to go until we move in, but it was by far our best investment in 2003. The purchase price has already gone up $30,000, and all we have right now is a dirt road and a stake in the ground!
