Firebird is now FireFox

I like the new name of the browser formerly known as Firebird better anyway. Mozilla FireFox .8 is now available at It comes with an actual installer, which means that the average schmoes can actually use the browser too!Dave Shea of MezzoBlue fame talks about the importance of brand and how he hated the name change until he saw the new logo.

Funny side note, just now I realized that the logo is a fox curled up around the traditional “earth” shape of a browser. Damn that’s cool.

The stories from Ben Gooder (The Browser, Rebranded), Steven Garrity (Towards Firefox 1.0), and Jon Hicks (Branding Firefox) are interesting reading as well.

I’ve already had a complaint from a user who says that the login options of don’t work…odd though, it’s worked fine for me so far.
