It's not that I didn't want to write these last two weeks. Sometimes I don't write because I have nothing to say. Sometimes I don't write because I have too much to say. Sometimes I don't write because I write and realize that what I've said is kind of dumb. Sometimes I don't write because…seriously, does it all have to be about me? Sometimes I don't write because saying something will get me “Dooced“. Then sometimes I don't write because the place that hosts our servers in Florida completely sucks, and managed to screw up an asp.NET 2.0 upgrade which put everything in a tizzy. Sometimes I don't write for any of the former reasons. This time I didn't write for the latter.

It's been a busy few weeks…but then again, when isn't it? I drive to London once a week, and spend 3 days at the InfoTech London office, then I spend 2 days a week at the InfoTech Toronto office. When I'm in London my commute is about 10 minutes. When I'm in Toronto my commute is an hour.

It's almost done though. Last Wednesday we put 5% down on our London house to seal the deal and firm things up for a March 3rd move in. This weekend we found a mover, and I'll be confirming that tomorrow. We've started packing, and I brought a load of stuff to London on Sunday night (books and comics mostly).

It's taken me a couple of months to get comfortable at InfoTech, but I finally really understand what it is that I can do for the place. I was recently promoted to the Web Team Manager, meaning I manage the group of 8 people who are the web team. I'm responsible for the prioritization of work, and I'll have a lot of input in the day-to-day running of the website. On Friday we launched a Flash ad on the home page that I incorporated some Unobtrusive Flash Object work into to allow it to downgrade to users without Flash nicely. Of course I screwed up a parameter which caused folks who had Flash 6.61 or above on their machines to see nothing but a big fat white screen thingie. For that I get the honour of the “YODA” for a couple of days.

All in all it's pretty good. Things are really falling into place, and in a couple short weeks I'll be here in London full time, ready for the next phase in our lives.
